How to choose an apartment with a pool in Cala Blanca, Menorca

Two properties may both be advertised as apartments with a pool in Cala Blanca, yet offer very different stays. In one, the pool may be right in front of the terrace; in another, you may have to cross a shared area to reach it. You may also find apartments that sleep four but have just one bedroom, alongside others where all four guests have beds across two separate rooms.

These are differences worth understanding before you book, especially if you are spending several days in Menorca.

If you have already chosen Cala Blanca as your holiday base, the next step is to compare more than just photos and prices. The type of pool, the interior layout, the outdoor space and the apartment’s exact location can all have a significant effect on your stay.

Private or shared pool: what is the real difference?

The first thing to check is simple: find out whether the pool belongs exclusively to the property or is shared with other homes.

In Cala Blanca, you will find holiday apartments with a shared pool. This means you can use it during your stay, but guests from other apartments in the complex can use it too.

That does not have to be a drawback. There is a significant difference between sharing a pool with a handful of properties and using one in a larger complex. So, as well as looking at how large the pool appears in the photos, find out how many properties use it.

If you want a pool exclusively for your family, without sharing it with other guests, check specifically that it is private. There are also villas with private pools in Cala Blanca, although that means considering a different type of accommodation.

Check where the pool is in relation to your apartment

The pool’s position is one of those details that general photos of the complex do not always make clear.

Just because a pool appears in photos of a complex does not mean it is right outside the door of every property. Depending on the layout, it may be in front of some terraces and further away from others.

If you are travelling with young children or plan to go back and forth between the apartment and the pool several times a day, it is useful to know the actual route.

Before booking, check whether you can access it directly from the outdoor area, whether you need to cross shared spaces and whether there are any stairs or doors along the way.

The orientation matters too. Having the pool in front of the terrace may be convenient for some families, while others may prefer an apartment a little further from the swimming area for greater privacy and peace and quiet.

Number of bedrooms and capacity are not the same thing

If there are four of you travelling, you may find two apartments with a pool and the same maximum capacity but very different layouts.

One has one bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. The other has two bedrooms, with beds for all four guests.

Even when the maximum capacity is the same, the layout can make a significant difference to how comfortably you share the space.

In a one-bedroom apartment, using the sofa bed means turning the living room into a sleeping area at night. This can work well for a couple with children, but may be less practical for four adults who want a degree of independence.

With two bedrooms, each part of the group can keep to its own sleeping routine without taking over the shared living area.

Before deciding, pay particular attention to the bed arrangement. Check whether the beds are singles or doubles, whether the sofa bed is suitable for adults and how many bathrooms the property actually has.

The maximum capacity tells you how many people the accommodation can sleep, but not how the beds are arranged or how much space each person will have.

Terrace, air conditioning and interior layout

The pool may be the main attraction when you search, but you will also spend many hours inside the apartment.

After a morning at Cala Blanca, you may want to come back for lunch, have a rest or wait for the temperature to drop before heading out again. At those times, the available space matters.

The outdoor space should suit how you plan to use it

A small terrace where you can sit for a while is very different from one with enough room for a table where several people can eat.

If you enjoy having breakfast outside or making dinner at your accommodation, check the size of the outdoor space and the furniture provided.

It is also worth distinguishing between a private terrace, a shared garden and communal areas within the complex. Just because a garden appears in the photos does not necessarily mean it belongs to the apartment you are booking.

Check where the air conditioning is installed

This is one of the details most worth checking in Menorca apartment listings.

Seeing “air conditioning” listed as a feature does not guarantee that there is a unit in every bedroom.

Some properties have air conditioning in the bedrooms, while others have it in the living room or a shared area. This matters if several people are sleeping in separate rooms or if someone is using the sofa bed.

Ideally, check where the units are and which rooms they cool.

The floor and access matter too

If you are travelling with a pushchair, have mobility difficulties or are carrying a lot of luggage, find out which floor the apartment is on and how to get there.

A ground-floor property may be more convenient for some travellers, but that alone does not guarantee a completely step-free route.

If you need step-free access, confirm the specific features of the entrance, doors and route to the pool.

How far is it really from Cala Blanca beach?

Cala Blanca is on the west coast of Menorca, near Ciutadella. It is an area where you can combine beach days with visits to the town and trips to other parts of the island.

However, apartments listed under Cala Blanca are not necessarily all the same distance from its beach.

The same search may show properties close to Cala Blanca and others towards Cala Santandria.

For example, the listing for Apartamento Palmeras 5 states that Cala Santandria is 900 metres away, while Cala Blanca beach is 2.6 kilometres away.

That is a significant difference if you intend to walk down to Cala Blanca every morning.

Before booking, check the map and see which beach is listed under distances. If you plan to walk, it is also worth checking the actual route rather than relying only on the distance shown.

If you are still deciding which bathing spot you want to be closest to, see our guide to beaches and coves near Cala Blanca.

And if you plan to use a car for part of your holiday, check the parking arrangements for each property. Do not assume that every home in the same complex comes with a parking space.

Apartments with pools in Cala Blanca for families with children: what to check

When travelling with children, choosing the right apartment depends a great deal on their ages and how you organise your days.

If you have a baby or young children, you may be particularly interested in easy access to the property, the bedroom layout and the option to prepare meals without relying on outside opening hours.

With older children, a shared pool can be a good way to spend part of the afternoon at the accommodation after a morning at the beach.

In either case, there are a few things worth checking before booking:

  • Pool safety and access. Check how the swimming area is enclosed, whether there are gates or barriers and what rules apply. A shallow area does not replace adult supervision.
  • Terrace location. If you want a view of the pool from outside the apartment, confirm that the view is from the specific property you are booking and not another unit in the complex.
  • Bedrooms and beds. Check whether the children will sleep in a separate bedroom or need to use the sofa bed in the living room.
  • Children’s equipment. If you need a cot or high chair, check whether one is available, whether you need to request it in advance and whether there is an additional charge.
  • Accessibility. Check the floor, stairs and route to the pool if you will be using a pushchair.

It is also worth checking the pool’s terms of use, particularly its opening dates and any access restrictions.

Do not assume that every pool in Cala Blanca has the same features or facilities. No conviene asumir que todas las piscinas de Cala Blanca tienen las mismas características o servicios.

Three Mauter Villas apartments that illustrate the differences

A useful way to compare properties is to look at how the features differ between real apartments.

These three Mauter Villas options have shared pools, but differ in capacity, layout and outdoor space. The comparison shows how one property differs from another; it is not a ranking.

Apartament C1 Mar Blanca: for couples or small families who want to be near the beach

Apartament C1 Mar Blanca has one bedroom, 35 m² of interior space and a maximum capacity of four people.

The bedroom has two single beds, and there is a double sofa bed in the living room, which the listing particularly recommends for children or teenagers. The apartment has a 4 m² terrace, air conditioning in the bedroom and access to a shared pool. Cala Blanca beach is listed as approximately 100 metres away.

Given its layout, it may suit a couple looking for a compact place near the beach or a small family that does not need two separate bedrooms.

If there are four adults, consider whether the sofa-bed layout will suit your stay. The listing also notes that the photos are representative of the category and that the interior layout may vary slightly.

Apartament FONA: two bedrooms and more outdoor space

Apartament FONA sleeps up to four people and has 80 m² of interior space.

It has two bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. It also has a 15 m² terrace, air conditioning and a shared pool.

The listing gives the distance to Cala Blanca beach as approximately 250 metres.

Compared with a one-bedroom apartment, FONA allows guests to sleep in two separate rooms and provides more space to spend time together during the day.

It is an option to consider for a family of four or two couples who prefer separate bedrooms and would value having a terrace where they can spend time outdoors.

Apartaments MONSINES 11 A: a shared pool used by only a few properties

Apartament MONSINES 11 A has two bedrooms, 70 m² of interior space and a stated maximum capacity of three guests.

One of its most interesting features is the layout of the outdoor area. The listing describes the apartment as facing the shared pool, which it shares with two other apartments.

It also has a furnished, covered 10 m² terrace with a barbecue and is approximately 500 metres from Cala Blanca beach.

There is an important detail about the air conditioning: the listing specifies air conditioning in the shared area, so do not assume that each bedroom has its own unit.

It may suit a couple or a group of three looking for two bedrooms and who particularly value having the terrace close to the pool.

In this case, you also know how many properties share the pool, which is useful when comparing complexes of different sizes.

How to compare the options before booking

Having looked at these examples, you may now have a clearer idea of which features to prioritise.

If you plan to spend many days at the beach and mainly use the apartment for resting, you may prefer a compact property close to Cala Blanca.

If there are four of you and you plan to cook, eat on the terrace or spend some afternoons at the accommodation, two bedrooms and more outdoor space may matter more.

And if the pool will be a central part of your holiday, find out exactly where it is, how many properties share it and how easy it is to reach from your apartment.

Once you have decided on your priorities, you can browse Mauter Villas apartments in Cala Blanca and compare listings based on your dates, the number of guests and the features you need.

Before confirming your booking, also check which facilities are included, which are optional, the cancellation terms and any property-specific information.

Choosing an apartment with a pool in Cala Blanca is not about finding the one with the longest list of advertised features; it is about identifying which ones you will actually use during your holiday.
