Cala Tortuga in Menorca, A hidden gem where time stands still

Cala Tortuga de Menorca

Cala Tortuga is a virgin beach located on the east coast of Menorca, in the natural park of s’Albufera des Grau, one of the principal points of the Menorcan Biosphere Reserve.

Surrounded by spectacular scenery, this small corner of the island is perfect for enjoying a day at the beach with the family because of its shallow depth and calm waters. On this beach, over the years, dunes have been forming in the back where turtles usually live, hence the name of Cala Tortuga (Turtle Cove).

Cala Tortuga is located on the route of the Camí de Cavalls, so it invites you to walk and contemplate the rugged landscape of this island area for those who like to be in contact with nature.

How to get there?

You can get there by car or motorcycle. Still, in recent years, you should know that private traffic to the lighthouse of Fàvaritx has been closed during the summer season to preserve the ecological richness of the area during the months of the most significant tourist influx.

From Maó, Cala Tortuga is 17 km away. Shortly before reaching the lighthouse, you can park your vehicle in the provisional parking enabled a few meters from the entrance of the estate Son Camamil.la. From here, you have to continue along the Camí dels Cavalls, walking about 3 km, passing first Cala Presili.

If you prefer to use public transport, during the summer months, you can use the bus line 43 Maó – Favàritx – Maó, which will leave you at 1.8 km from Cala Tortuga walking.

To enjoy the nature and wild landscape of this island area, we recommend you to make an excursion along the Camí dels Cavalls. Leaving from Mahón towards Es Grau, the distance is just under 20 km. If you prefer a shorter walk, you can take the stage from Es Grau to Faro Favàritx, passing Cala Tortuga.
